Romans 13
Romans 13:1 Each soul is subject to the higher authorities. Because there is no authority except by God’s appointment, and the authorities that exist have been put in place by God.
Romans 13:2 So the opponent of such authority opposes the direction of God, and those who resist will invite judgment
Romans 13:3 (because rulers cause no fear for exemplary achievements but for bad). Do you want not to fear authority? Do good, and you will receive its approval,
Romans 13:4 because it is God’s servant for your good. But if you are doing wrong, fear because it does not bear the sword in vain. It is God’s servant to administer retribution on the wrongdoer.
Romans 13:5 For this reason it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of the punishment the authorities can mete out, but also because of your conscience.
Romans 13:6 For this reason, you also pay taxes because the authorities are God’s servants devoted to governing.
Romans 13:7 Pay everyone what you owe them: taxes to the ones you owe taxes, revenue to the ones you owe revenue, respect to the ones you owe respect, honor to the ones you owe honor.
Romans 13:8 Owe no one nothing, except to care about one another, because the one who cares about his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
Romans 13:9 The commandments, “Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not covet,” (and if there is any other commandment), are summed up in this: “Care about your neighbor like yourself.”
Romans 13:10 Caring does no wrong to a neighbor. Then, caring is the fullness of the law.
Romans 13:11 And do this because we know the season, that it is already the hour for us to wake up from sleep because our rescue is now nearer than when we became believers.
Romans 13:12 The night has advanced toward dawn; the day is near. Then, we must put aside the achievements of darkness and put on the weapons of light.
Romans 13:13 Let us live decently as in the daytime, not in partying and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in discord and jealousy.
Romans 13:14 Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ and do not think about arousing the lusts of the flesh.
